Mildred E. Shoults, 100, died of a respiratory ailment Jan. 2, 2000, at Winterset Care Center North.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, Jan. 4, at Fisher Funeral Home in Van Meter. Burial was at Union Chapel Cemetery near Van Meter.

Mildred Shoults was born Aug. 12, 1899, to William Harrison and Carrie (Pierce) Shoults of rural Van Meter. A resident of the Van Meter area for most of her life, she also lived in Des Moines from 1941-1961. In 1962, she moved to the Winterset area. Mildred was a public school teacher in her earlier years, then was an accounting clerk for the Des Moines Railway and United Federal Savings before her retirement. She was a member of the Church of the Nazarene in Winterset.

She was preceded in death by her parents and a sister.

She is survived by two nieces, Elizabeth Schmidt of Anita and Lloydene Cadwell of Adel; and one nephew, Ron Brown of Apache Junction, Ariz.

Memorial contributions may be directed to Middle River Hospice in Winterset.
