S. G. HOENESS Of Winterset Dies

Samuel G. Hoeness, a prominent Madison county farmer and political and church leader for many years, died Saturday, Nov. 21, 1959, at his home in Winterset. He was 79 years of age.

Mr. Hoeness was a native of Germany, where he was born at Wurtemberg on Feb. 28, 1880, a son of Charles L. and Elizabeth Marie Schlegle Hoeness. He had lived in Madison county since 1894.

Mr. Hoeness was a former state representative from Madison county, serving two terms, from 1943 to 1946, in the Iowa legislature. During his life here he was active in the United Presbyterian church, in which he served as elder, Sunday school superintendent, and was Sunday school teacher. He was a past president of the Madison county Sunday school association and of the Madison county Farm Bureau. His active life was spent in farming west of Winterset, until his retirement several years ago, when he moved into Winterset.

He was married Dec. 21, 1904, to Mable Savilla Comp. Her death occurred in 1935. His second marriage was to Bertha McCorkle McDonald, who survives him.

In addition to his wife; he leaves two sons, Harry and Lloyd Hoeness of Winterset; a half sister, Mrs. Katherine Corlett of Springfield, Mo., four grandchildren; and five great grandchildren.

Funeral services were held this Tuesday from the United Presbyterian church in Winterset, conducted by the Rev. S. C. Picken, and the pastor, Howard Church. Burial was made in the Winterset cemetery.
