W. C. KRABIEL Of Winterset Dies

W. C. Krabiel, prominent Winterset druggist and business man, died here Monday, Nov. 30, 1953, at Madison County Memorial hospital. He was 73 years of age. He had been in failing health for several years, but became fatally ill Thanksgiving day as result of a cerebral hemmorhage.

Mr. Krabiel owned and operated the drug store now known as the Miller drug for many years, until 1923, when he sold out to Harry McCombie. His name was included on the Iowa Honor Roll of Druggists, for having served 50 years.

Since 1923, he had owned and operated the Bull Dog Floor Clip company, with offices in Winterset.

Over a long period of years, Mr. Krabiel was active, in many community improvement projects in Winterset.

He was a native of this community, and spent nearly all his life here. He was born at Winterset Feb. 4, 1880, a son of G. G. and Mary Josephine Krabiel. His father died when he was 13 years of age.

He studied pharmacy at the State University of Iowa in Iowa City, and obtained his certificate in 1899. For several years he owned and operated a drug store at Adel, before returning to Winterset to engage in the drug business.

As a young man he was married to Mary L. Wintrode of Winterset. Her death occurred Dec. 16, 1945. His sisters, Mrs. Gertrude Eymann and Mrs. Lillian Simpson both preceded him in death.

His only surviving blood relative is a niece, Mrs. C. B. Thompson of Winnettka, Ill. He was a brother-in-law of Mrs. Ralph Thompson of Winterset, Sgt. John Wintrode of Edinburg, Ill., and R. D. Simpson of Lamesa, Texas.

Funeral services were to be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday from the First Presbyterian church of Winterset, conducted by the pastor, the Rev. George DeF. Fisher. Burial was to be made in the Winterset cemetery.
