DEATH OF L. L. LAVALLEUR

Louis L. Lavelleur, Winterset oil man, died at the Winterset hospital Sunday afternoon, September 18th, after an extended illness. Mr. Lavelleur was born in Jasper county, but came to this county in 1912 and has since made this county his home. He farmed for several years and was in the real estate business. Five years ago, he engaged in the oil business, and with his sons owned and operated a station. He was active in this work, until his sickness kept him at home.

The Rev. W. C. Porter, pastor of the United Presbyterian church conducted his funeral services which were held at Tidrick's funeral home, Tuesday morning, at 10 o'clock, and the body was taken to his former home, Greencastle for burial.

Mr. Lavelleur is survived by his wife, and five children: Velma, Alta, Beatrice, Edward and Harry. More details of his life may be found in the mortuary column.

MORTUARY

Louis L. Lavelleur, the son of Frank and Rosalie Lavelleur was born near Greencastle, Poweshiek township, Jasper county, Iowa, on the fifth day of December 1870. He died at the Winterset hospital Sunday, September 18, 1932, aged 61 years, 9 months and 13 days.

He grew to manhood on the farm where he was born. On January 20, 1895, he married Miss Della Conwell of Baxter, Iowa. To them seven children were born. Two sons died in infancy. Those now living are Velma, Alta, Beatrice, Edward and Harry.

Besides his wife and these children other near relatives surviving him are: three brothers; Horace of Garvin, Minnesota; Frank of Grand Island, Nebraska and Eugene of Hayward, California; two daughter-in-law, Mrs. Edward Lavelleur and Mrs. Harry Lavelleur, and a step-granddaughter, Carolyn Wade all of Winterset. A brother Clarence died some years ago and a sister Louise died last year in California.

Mr. Lavelleur came to Madison county in 1912. He engaged in farming and dealt in real estate. The past five years he with his sons have carried on a large oil business in Winterset. By honesty, energy and kindliness he won many friends and built up a name and a business which for service is worthy to be emulated.

He has now fallen into that last sleep of all mankind. He will be missed by many true friends. The sympathy of all these is lovingly tendered to the bereaved family.

The funeral services were conducted by W. C. Porter Tuesday morning at 10 o'clock at the Tidrick funeral home. Burial was made at Greencastle in the cemetery on the Lavelleur homestead.

Coordinator's note: Transcribed as published, first name on gravestone is "Lewis" but "Louis" on his Iowa Death Certificate. It is also about 50-50 Lewis/Louis on all other vital records.
