MRS. M. C. LEINARD Dies In Washington

Mrs. M C. Leinard, one of the last surviving pioneer residents of Madison county died Tuesday, Dec. 27, 1950, at the home of her daughter, Mrs. J. J. Pruitt, in Tacoma, Wash.

Mrs. Leinard was 97 years of age. She was the former Mary Matilda Smith, daughter of James and Sarah Stubbs Smith, and was born in Coshocton county, Ohio, on June 27, 1852. She came to Madison county with her parents in 1869, making the trip by wagon train.

She was married Dec. 25, 1873, to M. C. Leinard. They farmed for many years in Lincoln township and then moved into Winterset where they resided until Mr. Leinard's death about 10 years ago. Since then she had made her home with her daughter in Tacoma.

In addition to her daughter, she leaves a son, E. R. Leinard of Winterset; eight grandchildren; eighteen great grandchildren; and six great great grandchildren. She also leaves two half sisters, Mrs. Nina Hale of West Liberty, and Mrs. Maggie Daniels of Salina, Kan.

Following cremation, private funeral services were held at Tacoma. The ashes will be removed to Winterset later for interment in the family plot here.
