Frederick L. Murphy Sr., St. Charles

Frederick L. Murphy Sr., 77, of rural St. Charles died at home June 19, 2001 of carbon monoxide poisoning.

Funeral services were held Monday, June 25, at Overton Funeral Home in Indianola. Burial was at St. Charles Cemetery.

Frederick Murphy was born Sept. 3, 1923, to Fred L. and Lucy (O'Brien) Murphy of rural Martensdale. An Army veteran of World War II, he married Marda Sears on June 10, 1945. They were the parents of two sons, Frederick Jr. and Patrick H. Murphy. A resident of rural St. Charles since 1948, Frederick had worked for Northern Propane and retired from Ziegler Heavy Equipment as a mechanic. He also farmed. He was a member of the Rolling Hills Camper Club and Farm Bureau.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife.

He is survived by a son, Frederick Murphy Jr. of Norwalk; two grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
