Mrs. Mary Vesta Reed, 89 years and 6 months, passed away, April 28, 1992, at Citizens Memorial Hospital in Bolivar, Polk County, Missouri. Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, May 1, 1992, at Buffalo United Methodist Church, with Rev. Larry Kennard officiating.

Vesta was born October 28, 1902, in Winterset, Madison County, Iowa, to Ernest and Rosa (Husted) Leinard. Vesta accepted Christ as her savior as a young person and joined the Methodist Church. She raised her family in the church and remained a faithful member of the Buffalo United Methodist Church until her passing. She was a member of the Lydia Circle of the Methodist Church and a past member of the Rebecca Lodge and the Eastern Star. Vesta enjoyed quilting and crocheting and needle work.

She was united in marriage to Frank Reed on February 21, 1925 in St. Charles, Madison County, Iowa and to this union was born seven children six of whom survive her. She and Frank lived in Peru, Madison County, Iowa, until 1942 when they moved to a farm in the Cowden, Missouri area, then moving to the Prairie Grove, Missouri community in 1946, where they lived until their retirement in 1964. They then moved to a smaller farm just south of Buffalo, Dallas County, Missouri. After Frank’s passing, she moved to the Pleasant View Apartments where she resided at her passing. Vesta always had a ready smile and a quick wit for all that she met.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband Frank in 1982, one sister: Ines Foster, and one son: Lloyd Reed, and one grandson: Jerry Dean Reed. She leaves in her passing four sons: Ernest and Phillip of Buffalo, Missouri, Dale Reed of El Dorado Springs, Missouri and Claire Reed of Richmond, Missouri, two daughters: Doris Stanton of Lee’s Summit, Missouri and Alice Ovitt of Plano, Illinois, one brother: Thomas Leinard of Winterset, Iowa, and one sister: Della Mae Sprugin of Mitchellville, Iowa. Also, many other family, and friends who will all miss her.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, April 30, 1992, at Cantlon Funeral Home, Buffalo, Dallas County, Missouri. Burial will be at Oak Lawn Cemetery, Buffalo, Dallas County, Missouri.
