St. Charles Special, July 24th--
Emma Stillings Reid passed away at Cummings, Kansas, Monday, July 18th, at the age of 76 years. She had for several years made her home with her son, Graham at Waterloo, but about July 1 had gone to Cummings, to visit a nephew and girlhood friends. The summons came quickly following two strokes of paralysis.
She was united in marriage in 1873 to Jesse Reid and five children were born to this union, Browne, Myrtle, Graham, Herbert, and Leroy. Of these Browne passed away in 1923 and Herbert died in California in 1919 during the influenza epidemic. The remaining children, Graham of Waterloo, Miss Myrtle, who for a number of years has been a teacher in the schools at Ames, Leroy of California, seven grandchildren, one great grandchild.
For many years Mrs. Reid lived on the farm three miles southeast of town but later the farm was sold and she made her home with her children.
The remains were taken to the home of her cousin, M. W. Browne until time for the funeral services Monday at 2:30. She was a member of the Methodist church at this place. After the funeral services she was laid to rest in the cemetery here beside the husband who preceded her forty-six years ago. Relatives from a distance in attendance at the funeral were: Mr. and Mrs. Wienaman, Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Browne, Mr. and Mrs. Harry Browne and Rae Dean all of Indianola.
(Burial was in the St. Charles cemetery)
