RUSSELL MURPHEY WINTERSET DIES

Russell C. Murphey of Winterset died Friday, April 19 at a Des Moines hospital. He was 76 years of age.

Mr. Murphey was born at Carlisle Sept. 22, 1891. Most of his life was spent in Des Moines where he was a municipal employee, working for the city for 37 years. In 1959 he retired and moved to Winterset.

He was a member of the Primitive Baptist church of Winterset.

Survivors include his widow, the former Jessie Poffinbarger of Winterset; a son, Wayne F. Murphey of Des Moines; one grandson; and a sister, Mrs. Mary Crews of Chatham, Va.

Funeral services were held Monday from Dahlstrom's Funeral home in Des Moines, in charge of his pastor. Elder Walter Acton of Kirksville, Mo. Burial was made in Laurel Hill cemetery in Des Moines.

Attend Murphey Funeral Monday

Among those from Winterset attending funeral services at Dahlstom’s Funeral in Des Moines Monday afternoon for Russell Murphey were Mr. and Mrs. Clair Burd, Mr. and Mrs. Asa Smith, Mr. and Mrs. Albert Frey.

Also Mrs. Pearl Hartman, Mrs. Nona Blair, Mrs. Edna Griffith, Mrs. Marjorie Kellogg, Mrs. Marle Deardorf, Mrs. Mike McCarthy, Gladys Baker and Mrs. Lucille McComb.

Mrs. Murphey’s cousins Carl Weaver and Lema Weaver of Ames also attended the services.
