Dorothy Mueller, Perry

Dorothy Karns Shivvers Mueller, 84, of Perry died April 17, 2005 at Mercy Hospice in Johnston.

A graveside service will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, April 22, at Lincoln Township Cemetery in Knoxville. Visitation will be held from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday, April 21 at the Carris Family Funeral Home in Perry with the family present to greet friends from 4-6 p.m.

Dorothy Mueller was born April 11, 1921 in Pleasantville. She was later adopted into the family of Ralph W. and Nell Shivvers of rural Knoxville. She received her education from Lincoln Township Grade School and Knoxville High School. She also attended Simpson College, where she was a member of the Tri-Delta Sorority. Dorothy received her two-year teacher certificate in 1941 and taught kindergarten in Melcher-Dallas for one year. On June 5, 1942, she married Ernest William Mueller II of Winterset. Following World War II, she and her husband farmed in rural Knoxville. In 1957, they moved to Perry. Dorothy resumed her teaching career in 1962 in the Woodward-Granger school system. She also taught in LeMars and Oyens and was an administrative assistant at Westmar College.

She was preceded in death by her husband.

She is survived by one son, E. William Mueller III of Perry; two daughters, Maribeth of Geneva, Ill., and Lori Ann Erickson of Sycamore, Ill.; and four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be directed to Mercy Hospice in Johnston or the Muscular Dystrophy Association.
