Sarah Matilda Greer Burns

Sarah Matilda Greer Burns, daughter of Thomas and Sarah Greer, was born in Lansdowne, Ontario, Canada, December 31, 1853, and died at her home in Madison County, Iowa, on June 30, 1932, at the age of 78 years.

She was united in marriage to John G. Burns, October 8, 1872. To this union five children were born; four are living. One son, Nelson, died at the age of 11 years. The family lived in Canada for ten years, moving to Madison county in 1882. Their home has been in this county since that date.

In early girlhood she united with the Methodist Episcopal church. When she moved to this county she united with the Baptist church, more than forty years ago. She has lived a consecrated Christian life. She was a loving mother and helpful neighbor.

Those who mourn her departure are: a husband, John G. Burns, 4 children, Mrs. Clara Mills of Des Moines, Mrs. Anna Gordon, Theodore and Miller Burns of Winterset, Iowa. Four brothers and one sister, Andrew, Thomas, James and William Greer, and Mrs. Lizzie Rippey. Eight grandchildren and six great grandchildren.

Services were conducted by Rev. H. L. Olmstead from the Ramsey-Richards funeral home at 2:30 Saturday, July 2. Burial was in the Winterset cemetery.

SERVICES HELD FOR MRS. JOHN G. BURNS

Services for Mrs. John G. Burns, 78, who died Thursday, were held Saturday afternoon at 2:30 at the Ramsey-Richards funeral home conducted by the Rev. H. L. Olmstead, pastor of the Church of Christ. Burial was in the Winterset cemetery. She was stricken with paralysis several months ago and had been bedfast. A short time ago she contracted pneumonia which was the cause of her death.

Mrs. Burns was Sarah Mytilda Greer, daughter of Thomas and Sarah Greer and was born in Lansdowne, Ontario, Canada, December 31, 1853. Her marriage took place October 8, 1872. Of their five children four are living, Nelson dying at the age of eleven.

The family lived in Canada ten years, moving to Madison county in 1882 which has since been their home. She became a member of the Methodist church when a young girl, uniting with the Baptist church after moving to Iowa more than forty years ago.

Those who survive are her husband, her children Mrs. Clara Mills of Des Moines; Mrs. Anna Gordon, Theodore and Miller Burns, all of Winterset; four brothers and a sister, Andrew, Thomas, James and William Greer and Mrs. Lizzie Rippey; eight grandchildren and six great grandchildren.
