LAST RITES HELD – MRS. O. E. BEACH

Services At Presbyterian Church. Death Comes After Lingering Illiness.

Last rites for Mrs. O. E. Beach who died June 23, at the home of her daughter, Mrs. W. Dean McKee of Shenandoah, were held at the First Presbyterian church Wednesday morning, June 23, the Rev. W. P. Fink the pastor, in charge. Burial was in the Winterset cemetery.

Mrs. Beach was one of the fine women of Winterset. A splendid cook and housekeeper, she delighted in spending all her spare time in her garden. Kindly inconsiderate, she was generous with her flowers which found their way into many homes.

A tireless and energetic worker, Mrs. Beach was finally compelled by ill health to give up all her work though as long as she could and far beyond her strength, she continued the work in her home and with her flowers.

She was a member of the Winterset Garden club, the Colombian club, and a charter member of Hawthorne Rebekah lodge at Macksburg, afterward transferring her membership to crown Rebekah lodge here, taking an active interest until her health failed.

Mrs. Beach joined the Baptist church at Harrisburg when she was 15, remaining a member until the family moved to Madison county. She took an active part in the Fellowship Congregational church of Grand River township and upon moving to Winterset became a member of the First Presbyterian church.

She was Lillian Sophia Piper, daughter of John and Elizabeth Piper and was born at Bonaparte, January 3, 1866. Mrs. Beach was the youngest of a family of 10 children; the only survivor a sister, Mrs. B. F. Cheney of Portland, Oregon. She grew to womanhood in the home near Bonaparte, became the bride of O. E. Beach May 12, 1886 and lived on a farm near Hillsboro.

The family moved to Madison county in 1891 settling on a farm in Grand River township near Macksburg. In 1909 they moved to Winterset where they lived until September 1936 when her health compelled her and her husband to go to the home of their daughter and Shenandoah. They celebrated their golden wedding at their home here in 1936.

The close relatives are her husband, three sons, Oren R. Beach, Des Moines; Sam W. Beach, Toledo, Ohio; a daughter, Mrs. W. Dean McKee of Shenandoah; eight grandchildren and her sister.
