Philip Davitt, Arkansas

Philip Davitt, 63, former Iowa legislator of Bella Vista, Ark., died of a heart attack Oct. 21, 1994 at his home. Funeral services were Oct. 24, 1994 at St. Stephens Catholic Church in Bentonville, Ark. With burial at Bella Vista Cemetery. A memorial service will beheld Nov. 25, 1994 at 7 p.m. at St.John’s Catholic Church in Cumming.

He was born in Warren County. He farmed and owned floral shops. He was a democratic state representative for Warren County and parts of Dallas, Madison, Adair and Clarke counties from 1976 through 1984. He served as assistant majority leader and chairman of the House Ways and Means Committee. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and the St. Stephens Catholic Church in Bentonville, Ark.

Surviving relatives include his wife, Theo Davitt; four sons, Mark Davitt of Pleasant Hill, Mike Davitt of St. Marys, Joe Davitt of Johnston, and Jay Davitt of Bella Vista; two daughters, Maria Robison and Julie Haskins both of Bella Vista; his mother, Barbara Davitt of Norwalk; one brother, Robert of Des Moines; five sisters, Mary Steinhauser of Parnell, Mo., Joann Deatsch of Lake Havasu City, Ariz., Dorothy Thomas of Morton, Ill., Jane McCurnin of Norwalk, and Helen Ripperger of Indianola; and 16 grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be directed to the St. Stephens Catholic Church in Bentonville, Ark.
