James Alan Deinema, 62, of Canton, South Dakota, died May 24, 1995 at Canton-Inwood Memorial Hospital. Funeral services were May 26, at the Canton Lutheran Church. The Rev. Marlin Haugrud, the Rev. Greg Olson and the Rev. Victor Pavlenko officiated at the services. Burial was at the Forest Hill Cemetery in Canton, South Dakota.
He was born in Canton, South Dakota on June 6, 1932 to Ralph and Olga Deinema. He married Caroline Macumber on August 22, 1954 in Winterset. He had been a 2nd Lieutenant in the United States Army and was owner of the Deinema Ford dealership for 35 years. He was currently a Real Estate Appraiser. He was a past member and served as an officer of Canton Lutheran Church; Canton Lutheran Church Choir; Canton-Inwood Memorial Hospital; Canton Development Corporation; Canton Lions; Canton City Commission; Lincoln County Airport Advisory Board; Worthing Olde Towne Theatre; Canton Chamber of Commerce; Canton City Zoning and Planning Board; and the Canton Library Foundation. He was chosen Canton Citizen of the Year in 1972.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Surviving relatives include his wife; two sons, Steve Deinema and wife Julie of Stuart, Fla., and Mark Deinema and his wife Vicki of Breckenridge, Colo.; one daughter, Judy of Ft. Collins, Colo.; his sister-in-law Jane and husband Gary Weber of Laguna Beach, Calif.; and one granddaughter.
