DR. ED EMBREE IS DEAD

Dr. Ed Embree died at 4:30 this morning, Nov. 13, 1918. He had lost the battle. Death claimed him after a long struggle against overwhelming odds.

About two years ago, he was sricken with an incurable ailment. In order to spare his wife, Minnie, he kept his affliction to himself and continued to minister to others. Finally he was forced to take to his bed and call in a physician.

For the past year he had fought the battle, knowing every symptom of his disease and knowing that he was slowly dying. In spite of this, he accepted his slot without murmur or complaint and calmly and patiently waited for the end.

He was a big man, possessed a big warm heart and was extremely liberal toward the frailties and shortcomings of his fellow man. He will be sorely missed by many. His death will cause sincere sorrow in the scores of homes where he ministered in the relief of suffering, in the successful practice of his profession.

Funeral services will be held at the home at 10:30 Friday. Burial will be at the Winterset cemetery.

Ed Embree

Ed Embree, oldest son of Amos E. Embree and his wife, Rebecca Stiles, was born at Indianola on the second of June, 1864. After a long illness he entered into rest in the early morn on November 13.

After graduating from high school he attended Simpson college. Leaving there before receiving his degree, he pursued the study of medicine at the state university, where on the sixth of March, 1889, at the age of 25. he received the degree of doctor of medicine. He later went to the Chicago Polyclinic, and pursued post graduate work at three different times.

He began the practice of medicine at Patterson, Iowa, but soon moved to Winterset, where for 26 years he has been an honored member of the medical fraternity.

On Feb. 12, 1907, he was married to Miss Minnie Jengs of Spencer, Iowa, who with two brothers; Frank of Des Moines, and Lieut. Harold Embree, off Fortress Monroe, Va., and one sister, Mrs. C..L. Wilson, honor the memory of a devoted husband and kind brother.

Embree was a consistent member of the Presbyterian church, of the Masonic lodge, the Modern Woodmen of the World and was Grand Trustee of the Grand Lodge Knights of Pythias.

He seemed destined by nature for the art which heals the diseases of the body. In this are he served like the Great Physician, who came not to be ministered to but to minister. His attachment to his home and the warmness of his heart will be appreciated by those who knew him best. These and other sterling elements of his character make us feel that when Dr. Embree fell asleep the wife inherited the precious memory of a good husband, many of us a loyal friend, and all of us that of a good neighbor.
