MRS. P. W. SCOTT DIES AT 82 YEARS

Death Came on Tuesday at Home of Daughter in Peru

Mrs. P. W. Scott, a resident of Madison county for most of her long life, died Tuesday at the home of her daughter, Mrs. D. M. Travis, in Peru, where she had been living the last three months. She was 82 years of age.

Mrs. Scott was the former Edwina Wiggins, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Nathaniel Wiggins, and was born near Patterson. As a young woman she was married to P. W. Scott. They were the parents of nine children, six of whom survive.

She spent her entire life in Madison county, with the exception of five years in Clarke county. Her husband died in 1940. Before going to the D. M. Travis home three months ago, she had spent three years at the home of her daughter, Mrs. O. N. Archer, in Winterset.

Surviving children are Mrs. O. N. Archer of Winterset, Mrs. D. M. Travis of Peru, Willard and Frank Scott of near Truro, Mrs. Edith Read of Burwell, Nebr., and Mrs. Lonnie Weed of Orient. She also leaves 21 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held this Thursday at 2:30 p.m. from the Peru Methodist church. Burial will be made at Truro.

Mrs. Warren Fisher and Mrs. Bethune Ferguson and son Spencer Earl of Oelwein were in Peru Friday, being called there by the serious illness of their grandmother, Mrs. Edwina Scott who passed away Tuesday morning of last week.

F. Scott, Mr. and Mrs. Leo Dick and family, and S. D. Scott of Truro, Mr. and Mrs. Dale Weed, Mr. and Mrs. Donald Diers, and Mr. and Mrs. L. L. Weed and family all of Orient.

Coordinator's note: Her father's obituary says the family migrated to Iowa in 1869 and both the 1870 and 1895 censuses say she was born in New Hampshire.
