Funeral services for Ole H. Hollen of Winterset will be held this Friday afternoon, Oct. 28, from the Winterset Methodist church.

Mr. Hollen, died Tuesday morning, Oct. 25, 1955, at Madison County Memorial hospital here. He was 77 years of age.

The son of John J. and Kristiana Quarsteen Hollen, he was born Feb. 13, 1878 at Christiansand, Norway. At the age of four, he came with his parents and older brothers and a sister to this country, where the family settled on a farm in eastern Adair county, Ia.

He grew to manhood on this farm, and then entered the teaching profession. He served as superintendent of school at Lineville, Van Wert, and Lamoni, Iowa and was active in the teaching profession over a peiod of about 15 years.

On July 18, 1904, he was married to the former Mabel M. Sawyer at Winterset.

In 1915, they purchased a farm in Lincoln township of this county where they made their home until moving to Winterset a few years ago.

Even while farming, Mr. Hollen continued to take an active interest in education affairs. He was a long-time member of his local school board, and served several terms on the Madison county board of education.

He was also active in the formation of the Farmers Co-operative elevator in Winterset, and served on its board of directors and as president at one time.

He helped form the farm Bureau organization in Madison county, and served as president and director of that group for several years.

Mr. Hollen was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and two sisters.

Surviving are his wife, four children, Olga Hollen of Winterset, Norma Hollen of Ames, Ia., Evelyn Hollen of Brookings, S. Dak., and Dr. James M. Hollen of Winterset; one brother, Norman Hollen of Winterset; one half-sister, Erma Underwood of Ithaca, New York; and four grandchildren.

Officiating at the services this Friday afternoon will be the Rev. Walter A. Samp of Adel, former Methodist minister here. Burial will be in the Winterset cemetery.
