Peru Man Drowns In Illinois

Lawrence Moorehead, 28, of Peru drowned last Monday while swimming in a pool in Quincy, Illinois. Moorehead, a concession stand operator traveling with the Hartstock Shows carnival, dived from the pool's diving board into about eight foot of water and failed to return to the surface.

A coroner stated that the bruises on Moorehead's forehead and shoulder indicated that he apparently went to the bottom of the pool after diving and struck his head.

Mr. Moorehead had lived in Madison County the past ten years.

He was born May 15, 1944 in Mason City, a son of Mr. and Mrs. William F. Moorehead. He was married to Rita Welch on Sept. 14, 1965 in Omaha, Nebraska.

Besides his wife, Rita, Mr. Moorehead is survived by his parents; three children, Marvin Moorehead, Lawrence Moorehead Jr., and Suzette Moorehead; six brothers, Michael Moorehead, Danny Moorehead, William Moorehead, Randy Moorehead, Jerry Moorehead and Denny Moorehead, all of Mason City; and two sisters, Charlotte Olson of Clear Lake and Marcia Moorehead of Mason City.

The funeral was held last Friday afternoon at the St. Joseph Catholic Church in Winterset with the Rev. Father John F. Hart in charge. Burial was made in the Winterset Cemetery.

Rosary was recited Thursday evening at Collins Funeral Home.
