William Chaney, Garden Grove

William L. Chaney, 67, of Garden Grove, died April 6, 1994 at the V. A. Medical Center in Iowa City. Funeral services were held April 9, 1994 at the Slade-O’Donnell Funeral Home in Leon with the Rev. Terry Roberts officiating. Burial was at the Maple Row Cemetery in Kellerton with Military honors by Kellerton Legion Post 676.

He was born November 1, 1926 in Argonia, Kansas to Abraham Lincoln Long and Peggy Arlene Graves. He married Julie Ann Allen on October 27, 1979 in Minnesota. He was raised in Des Moines and served in the U.S. Navy, WWII with a rank of Chief Petty Officer, Photography. He graduated in 1951 from Palmer Chiropractic College in Davenport and practiced as a chiropractic physician in the Kellerton, Winterset, Des Moines, and Creston areas. He retired in 19880 due to health problems. He was a charter member of the Kellerton Lions Club, past Commander of the American Legion Post 676 in Kellerton, District Chairman for the Iowa Chiropractic Society and a Mason.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister; one brother; and one nephew.

Surviving relatives include his wife; one stepson, David Hodge of Creston; one brother, Joe Chaney and wife Lois of Littleton, Colo.; nieces and nephews and other relatives.
