ORLENA SHOEMAKER DIED ON MONDAY

Life-Long Resident of This County Was 79 Years of Age

Mrs. Orlena Shoemaker, a Madison county resident for all of her 79 years, died at her home in Winterset Monday after a two weeks illness.

Mrs. Shoemaker was born in Madison county Aug. 19, 1865. She was the former Orlena Wilkinson, daughter of John and Sarah Wilkinson. She was married Nov. 4, 1883, to George Shoemaker. They observed their sixtieth wedding anniversary less than two years ago, but Mr. Shoemaker died last year.

Mr. and Mrs. Shoemaker spent their active years farming in Madison county, but moved into Winterset seven years ago.

They were the parents of 11 children, two of whom preceded the parents in death. One of them, William Shoemaker, was killed in action while serving with the U.S. army in France, during World War I. The other was Clarence Shoemaker, who died four years ago.

Mrs. Shoemaker is survived by nine children: Curtis Shoemaker of Somers, Mont., Mrs. Muriel Freeman of Winterset, Mrs. Minnie Foster of Mappleton, Minn., Carl Shoemaker of St. Charles, Glen, Ralph, Ruth and Jane Shoemaker, all of Winterset, and Dr. J. D. Shoemaker of Chicago. She also leaves three brothers, Kale and Elmer Wilkinson of Des Moines, and Rollin Wilkinson of Rockford, Ill.; and a sister, Mrs. Floyd McKinnis of Des Moines.

Funeral services were held this Wednesday from the Winterset Church of Christ, in charge of the Revs. Tom Foglesong and L. F. Davis. Burial was made in the Winterset cemetery.
