Wednesday, February 13, 1952MAMIE BRITTAIN Dies After Fall
Mrs. Mamie Brittain, a well known Winterset woman, died at Memorial hospital Tuesday, Feb. 12, 1952, at the age of 65 years. Mrs. Brittain had received a fractured hip in a fall at her home on Sunday.
Mrs. Brittain had been a resident of Madison County for 63 years. She was born in this county Nov. 23, 1886. She was the former Mamie Gertrude Hendricks, daughter of William and Clara Hendricks. As a young woman she spent several years at Bowman, N. Dak., where she was married Aug. 26, 1908, to Lloyd Brittain. They were the parents of five children.
Mrs. Brittain had lived in Winterset since about 1929. She was active in the affairs of the Winterset Church of Christ, and various lodges and organizations, including the Royal Neighbors, Rebekahs, Woman's Relief corps, W.C.T.U. and Encampment auxiliary.
She is survived by her children, Alvin Brittain, Mrs. Fern Day, Paul Brittain, Mrs. Cleo Kirkland, and Gerald Brittain, all of Winterset; four brothers, Ollie, Everett, and Milo Hendricks, all of Winterset and Lee Hendricks of Escanaba, Mich.; and two sisters, Mrs. Minnie Ttate of Washougal, Wash., and Mrs. Alta Stone of Promise City.
Funeral services will be held this Thursday at 2 p.m. from the Winterset Church of Christ, in charge of the Rev. Sherman Hanson, pastor of the Winterset Church of Christ. Burial will be made in the (North) McDonald cemetery.
