Ira D. Comp, well-known retired farmer of Winterset, died Wednesday, March 19, 1947, at his home on West Green street. He was 67 years of age.
Mr. Comp was a life-long resident of this county. He was born six miles west of Winterset on June 24, 1879, the son of Joseph and Savilla Comp. His early life was spent in that community.
He was married March 26, 1902, to Nellie Rehard. For 32 years they operated their farm in the Union Chapel neighborhood, three miles southeaast of Patterson. They retired from active farm work and moved to Winterset only last January.
Mr. Comp had been a member of the Methodist church since young manhood, and for more than 40 years he had served his church in various official capacities. He was one of the original directors of the Farmers Cooperative elevator here, serving in that capacity for 26 years. For 18 years he was a member of the school board of the Patterson consolidated district.
He is survived by his wife, and a son, Joseph L. Comp, both of Winterset, four daughters, Mrs. Georgia McKinney of Des Moines, Mrs. Savilla Moore of Mt. Ayr and Mrs. Mary Frey and Mrs. Leona Jones, both of St. Charles; two brothers, William and Frank Comp, both of Winterset; and nine grandchildren.
Funeral services were held last Saturday from the Winterset Methodist church, in charge of the pastor, the Rev. G. L. Hufstader. Burial was made in the Winterset cemetery.
