Thursday, May 12, 1932DEATH OF JOHN REED
John Robert Reed, Civil War Veteran, died Monday, May 9th, at the home of his son, W. V. Reed, of Webster township. He was 90 years of age, and had been in poor health for some time.
Mr. Reed has lived in Madison county over 70 years, having come here, with his parents, from Pennsylvania, in 1859. In 1862 he enlisted in the Civil War, in Company H, 24th Iowa infantry. His marriage to Mary Ann Alexander took place in March 1867, and they were the parents of three children: Jennie Akin and Etta Loehr of Lorimor; and W. V. Reed, who survives the father. The mother died in 1920.
The Rev. R. C. Cully conducted his funeral services, Wednesday morning, at ten o'clock, at the Ramsey-Richards, funeral home, and burial was in the Winterset cemetery. Members of the American legion served as pall bearers.
