DEATH OF CHARLES CLARKE, SR.

St. Charles Special, May 4--

Charles Clarke, Sr., passed away April 25th at the Methodist hospital in Des Moines, where he had been taken a few hours before his death, at the age of 53 years. Mr. Clarke had lived in and near St. Charles for many years and had many friends who sympathize with the family in their bereavement.

He is survived by his wife, four sons, John, Willis and Charles, Jr., all of this place and Francis of Chicago, and one daughter, Mrs. Agnes Crawford of Washington, D.C., both of whom made the trip back by auto in response to a message telling of their father's condition. Other members of his immediate family are ten grandchildren, one sister in Canada, one sister, one half sister and one brother in Ireland, and also a brother, Robert of this place.

His funeral was held at the United Presbyterian church Thursday afternoon, his pastor, Rev. Carnahan having charge of the services, with burial in the St. Charles cemetery.

The pallbearers were old time friends and neighbors: Ross Strain, Frank Picken, L. W. Lynch, H. U. Garrett, W. S. Winters and J. H. Anderson. Relatives and friends from a distance who came to attend the funeral services were Mr. and Mrs. H. K. Crawford, Mrs. A. H. Crawford, Mrs. B. A. Crawford, Mrs. Charles Bailey, Albert Peterson, Mr. and Mrs. Hunter and Albert Vinding of Des Moines, Frank William and Robert Picken of Davis City and Sam Picken of Peru, Mrs. Herbert Houghtailing of Indianola and Andrew Blair of Valley Junction.
