Death of Charles E. Terry

Charles E. Terry, familiarly known as Ben Terry, died at this home near Dakota City, Nebraska, Friday, January 22, at the age of 38 years. He had been in poor health the last five months.

The deceased was a son of Mr. and Mrs. Wilson Terry and was born in Winterset, June 4, 1893.

During the World war he served in the 88th Division, Battery E 339 Field artillery, nine months of the time being served overseas.

On 1922 he went to Sioux City, and eight years later he moved to his farm.

Mr. Terry was the youngest of ten children and his father and five children have preceded him in death.

He leaves his aged mother, Mrs. Agnes Terry of Winterset, two sisters, Mrs. C. F. Lotz of Winterset and Mrs. John Houston of Kennebec, South Dakota, two brothers, Albert of Dakota City, Nebraska and G. C. Terry of Winterset.

Funeral services were held at the Methodist church in Dakota City Sunday morning at 11 o'clock and the body was brought to Winterset. Elder George Jones of Knoxville, preached his funeral services, held here at the Church of Christ, Monday morning at 11 o'clock and burial was in the Winterset cemetery. Members of the Green - Rogers post of the American Legion assisted with the services.

Charles E. Terry

Charles E. (Ben) Terry, son of Wilson and Agnes Terry was born at Winterset, Iowa, June 4, 1893, where he grew to manhood.

As a young man he united with the Early Chapel Church of Christ near Winterset. When the call came to serve his country he enlisted in the 88th Division, Bat. E. 339th Field Artillery, serving nine months overseas and was discharged in 1919.

In 1922 he went to Sioux City and eight years later to the farm four miles southwest of Dakota City and here he slipped quietly away Friday morning, January 22, at the age of 38 years, 7 months and 18 days. He was the youngest of ten children, the father and five have preceded him in death.

(One line missing from microfilm) failed in health. Although he suffered a great deal he was always cheerful and patient, never complaining but always hopeful for his recovery.

Mr. Terry was a member of Independent Order of Odd Fellows for 10 years, being Noble Grand of his home lodge at the time of his death.

The deceased is survived by his aged mother, Mrs. Agnes Terry, of Winterset, Iowa, two sisters, Mrs. C. F. Lotz of Winterset and Mrs. John Huston of Kennebec, South Dakota, two brothers, Albert of Dakota City, Nebraska; and G. C. of Winterset. These with a large circle of friends are left to mourn his loss.

A number of old friends and neighbors attended the funeral of Ben Terry on Monday at the Church of Christ in Winterset.

Mr. Terry died at Sioux City on Friday.
