Wednesday, November 23, 1938JOHN W. BEEM Died Here On Saturday
John W. Beem, member of a pioneer Scott township family, died at his home in Winterset Saturday after a long illness. He was 76 years of age, and had been an invalid since 1932.
Mr. Beem was the son of Richard and Elsie Beem, and was born in Indiana, on Jan. 29, 1862. In 1863 his parents came to Madison county, and the remainder of his life was spent here. He was married April 3, 1889, to Mary Viola Hircock. The first 10 years of their married life was spent on a farm near Macksburg. In 1900 they moved to a farm in Scott township where they lived until 1923. They had since made their home in Winterset.
Mr. and Mrs. Beem were the parents of seven children. Their only son, Percy Beem, died in 1922. Mr. Beem is survived by his wife, and the six daughters: Mrs. Bertha Clopton, Mrs. Eunice Warren, Mrs. Lorraine Powell, Mrs. Lenore Ford, and Mrs. Dorothy McDowell, all of Winterset, and Mrs. Mary Alexander of Des Moines. He also leaves 11 grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, two brothers and three sisters.
Funeral services were conducted from the Ramsey-Richards funeral home Tuesday, with the Rev. Tom Foglesong, pastor of the Church of Christ, officiating. Burial was made in the Winterset cemetery. The pall bearers were: Charles Addy, Ross Rogers, George Mapes, Wes Smith, Ansil Fields, and Sam Rogers.
