O. E. BEACH DIES AT MASON CITY

Former Winterset Abstractor Was 89 Years of Age

O. E. Beach, formerly a well known resident of Madison county, died of a heart attack at Mason City on Wednesday of last week at the age of 89 years. He had been living in Mason City since August.

Oscar Eugene Beach was born Nov. 25, 1855, near Hillsboro, Iowa, the youngest son of Julius and Jane Allen Beach. He was educated in the rural school of his home community, and at Howe's academy of Mt. Pleasant. For a time he taught rural school in Henry county, and later was employed as a teacher in the Whittier academy of Salem.

On May 12, 1886, he was married to Lillian Sophia Piper. They were the parents of four children, all of whom survive.

In 1890 they moved to a farm in Grand River township of this county, near Macksburg, living there until 1909 when they came to Winterset. Here Mr. Beach engaged in the abstract business until his retirement at the age of 80 years. He moved to Shenandoah and since had made his home with a daughter.

In childhood he joined the Congregational church in his home community, and after moving to Macksburg he helped organize the Fellowship Congregational church near there. In Winterset, the family affiliated with the First Presbyterian church, where he maintained membership until his death.

He was a member of the Independent Order of Odd Fellows for 66 years.

He is survived by his daughter, Mrs. W. D. McKee, now of Tarkio, Mo.; three sons, Oren R. Beach of Des Moines, Sam W. Beach of Ft. Peck, Mont., and Kenneth A. Beach of Toledo, O.; eight grandchildren and five great grandchildren.

Funeral services were held here last Friday from the Anderson home for funerals, in charge of the Rev. W. P. Gordon, pastor of the Winterset United Presbyterian church. Burial was made in the Winterset cemetery.
