Carroll Lee Moore, Nevada

Carroll Lee Moore, 67, of Carson City, Nev., passed away Sunday, Sept. 12, 2004, at Saint Mary's Hospice of Northern Nevada in Reno, Nev., of pancreatic cancer.

Carroll was born June 9, 1937, in Atlantic, Iowa, to Thad A. and Anna Fern (Schutz) Moore. He attended school in Massena, Griswold and Anita, Iowa, before moving to Macksburg at age 10. He graduated from Macksburg High School with the class of 1955. After graduation, he joined the United States Air Force and was with the Weather Division in Germany.

Upon returning to Macksburg he drove a truck for Vic Edwards. In 1968, Carroll and Lois moved to Carson City where Carroll worked for Nevada Automotive Test Center-a division of Hodges Transportation, Inc.-as director of tire testing for 23 years. The last 12 years he had worked as a field engineer for General Tire, which is now Continental Tire North America. He retired Aug. 31, 2004.

Carroll was a member of the American Chemical Society, American Defense Preparedness Association, International Test and Evaluation Association and a 25 year member of the Society of Automotive Engineers. He also was a member of the United Methodist Church in Macksburg.

In 1976, Carroll was the first national skillet throwing champion of the National Skillet Throw celebration in Macksburg. He loved to cultivate and plant his garden every year. Most of his produce was given to feed the homeless.

Carroll is survived by his wife, Lois; his daughter, Jennifer (Norbert) Hermanson; twin granddaughters, Emma Li and Julia Ling Hermanson of Seattle, Wash; three sisters, Anne (Jonathan) Deaver of Lansdale, Pa., Mary Carper of Panora and LaRose Nelson of Stanton; sisters-in-law Helen Bancroft of Stuart, Elizabeth Moore of Cedar Rapids, Dulsey Gray of Des Moines, Barbara Jorgensen of Harlan and Lora Stuart of Indianola; his aunt, Marjory Schutz of Winterset; and numerous cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Thad A. Moore and Fern Moore Shearer and three brothers, Andrew, James and Kenneth.

Visitation will be at 9:30 a.m. and the service will follow at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 18, 2004, at the United Methodist Church in Macksburg, with burial in Moon Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to Middle River Hospice, 300 W. Hutchings, Winterset, Iowa or to the United Methodist Church, Macksburg, Iowa.

Funeral arrangements were handled by Walton's Chapel of the Valley, Carson City, Nev., and Collins Oak Park Chapel, Winterset, Iowa.
