MORTUARY - William B. Dryden

William Bailey Dryden, son of John A. and Mary Rogers Dryden was born near Scott Center, Madison County, Iowa on January 1, 1864, and died January 1, 1932, in the same hour of the day he was born. God therfore measuring his 68 years of life to the very hour.

His boyhood was spent amit the pioneering conditions of the day. In early youth his father moved to Missouri. Later William went on alone to Kansas and bought a claim. This he soon sold and migrated to Cripple Creek, Colorado, during its gold mining boom. He later was at Denver and received several prizes for singing in a church choir. About 1900 he went to Goldfield, Nevada, and engaged in mining.

On September 4, 1912, he fell 70 feet in the mine shaft and never fully recovered from the injury. He also contracted Miners tuberculosis from which he suffered until death came in the T. B. sanitarium at Clarinda. For several years before going to Clarinda he made his home with his sister, Mrs. Russell Bailey who gave him the tenderest of care. He was always good and kind especially to children. He would divide his last dollar with the needy.

He is survived by two sisters Mrs. Russell Bailey of Winterset, and Mrs. Mary E. Hicks of Orchard, Nebraska, and one half sister, Mrs. Myrtle Wygal, Ravenwood, Missouri, also seven nephews and many friends. Mrs. Hicks by reason of illness was prevented from attending the funeral.

Funeral services were held at Tidrick's funeral home Sunday afternoon, January 3d. Burial was made in the Union Chapel cemetery. Frank Gregory, B. F. Jones, Arthur Jones, Freank Fuson, Charles Campbell and Robert Campbell acted as pallbearers. Reverend A. P. Keast conducted the services.
