MORTUARY

James Picken, son of James and Margaret Clarke Picken was born in County Antrim, Ireland, September 2, 1854 and died at his home in St. Charles, May 25, 1932, at the age of 77 years, 8 months and 23 days. He had been in failing health for several years and had been confined to his bed for the past four months.

October 17, 1876, he came to Warren county and on February 20, 1883 was united in marriage to Ruth C. Wallace, who preceded him in death January 30, 1899. To this union five children were born: J. W. Picken of this place, C. G. Picken of Brighton, Mrs. Elizabeth Knott of near New Virginia, Mrs. Myrtle Hayden of near Peru and Miss Ruth, still at home. Soon after coming to Iowa he joined the United Presbyterian church and had been an elder for many years. On April 19, 1903, he was united in marriage to Mrs. Ann Romine of this place and to this union two children were born: Mrs. Helen Browne of Cheyenne, Wyoming, and Clyde Picken of Peru. Mrs. Picken passed away in April 1922. He leaves seven children, thirteen grandchildren, one sister, two brothers and many other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held at the United Presbyterian church Friday afternoon by his pastor, Rev. W. C. Carnahan with burial in St. Charles cemetery. The pallbearers were A. R. Downs, J. F. Johnston, George Blair, A. W. Johnston, W. D. Downs and Robert Clarke.
