Life-Long Resident of This County Was 88 Years of Age
Mrs. Mary Silliman, a life-long resident of this county, died Monday at the home of her daughter, Mrs. A. E. Emerson of Winterset. She was 88 years of age.
Mrs. Silliman was widely known in both the Peru and Winterset communities. She was the former Mary C. Moore, daughter of John and Margaret Ann Moore, and was born June 27, 1857, in Scott township.
On May 2, 1878, she was married to Charles D. Silliman. They were the parents of eight children, one of whom, Walter, preceded the mother in death. She and Mr. Silliman lived for 50 years on their farm in Scott township. Her husband died in 1932.
She is survived by seven children: J. R. Silliman of Grand Junction, Colo., W. J. Silliman of Towner, Colo., A. E. Silliman of Park River, N. Dak., Mrs. Pearl Emerson of Winterset, Mrs. Eletha Clifton of Peru, Mrs. Elita Schoenenberger of Humboldt, Minn., and Lonnie Silliman of Redfield. She also leaves a sister, Mrs. Lilah Rhoades of Spokane, Wash., in addition to 38 grandchildren and 35 great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held this Friday at 2 p.m., from the Winterset Methodist church. Burial will be made in the Peru cemetery.
