Page 1Death of W. L. Goodwin
W. L. Goodwin, a former resident of Madison county died September 12th. Mr. Goodwin had attempted to climb through a barbed wire fence, while carrying a loaded gun. In some way the trigger of the gun had caught on a twig of a bush causing the accident. He is survived by his wife, a son Charles and daughter Thelma and two grandchildren. The funeral services were held from the Brethren church at Summerfield, Kansas, where he has made his home for a number of years. Burial was in the cemetery at Axtell.
Mr. Goodwin was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Enoch A. Goodwin and was born in Madison county, October 31st, 1878. Following the death of his parents when he was 16 years of age he made his home with an uncle, Will Cook. He was married July 17, 1899 to Miss Lizzie Bardrick. The following spring they moved to Kansas.
Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Thornburg and son Fred drove to Kansas to attend the funeral services Sunday September 14th. Mrs. Thornburg is a sister of Mrs. Goodwin.
