Death of J. F. Camp

J. F. Camp, for many years a citizen of Adair county, died at his home near Wiltsie, Kansas, on Wednesday, July 22, of acute appendicitis. He had been unwell for some time but his condition was not considered dangerous till on Monday afternoon, preceding his death, when he was rushed to the hospital and operated on at eleven o’clock that night. The doctors gave no hope from the beginning and he died about two o’clock on Wednesday afternoon.

Mr. Camp was born in Cochocton county, Ohio, and came with his widowed mother and grandfather, the late James Smith of Lincoln township, to this community in 1869 when he was but a child of three or four years. His mother remarried after a time and lived for many years in the edge of Adair county, on the Winterset and Greenfield road. Here Mr. Camp grew to manhood and married the former Miss Dell Busby of that community where they continued to reside for a number of years. About thirty years ago they closed out their holdings here and bought a farm near Wiltsie, Kansas, which has been their home since that time. “Frank” Camp was an industrious, upright man in all the relations of life.

He leaves to mourn his loss, his wife, one son, two daughters several grandchildren and many other relatives and friends whose sympathies go out in an especial way to his aged mother, now past eighty eight years of age, who lives with another son, J. W. Killam, of Adair county and who has been under a nurse’s care almost constantly for the last three or four years.

Mr. Camp is a nephew of M. J. Smith, Mrs. Elizabeth Leinard and Mrs. M. C. Leinard of the community.
