Wednesday, October 13, 1971MRS. C. E. SPURGIN DIES AT 87 YEARS
Mrs. Georgia A. Spurgin of Ames, a former resident of Madison county, died last Wednesday, Oct. 6, at Ames. She was 87 years of age.
Mrs. Spurgin was a native of Adair county, where she was born June 21, 1884, a daughter of Henery and Clydona Wight Kensler. She was a former school teacher in Madison county, and had also lived in Des Moines, Cherokee and Meridian before moving to Ames.
She was married at Winterset on Nov. 29, 1905, to Charles E. Spurgin, who survives her.
She was a member of the First Baptist church in Cherokee.
In addition to her husband, she leaves five children, Raymond Spurgin of Mitchellville, Mrs. Mary Clague of Ames, Mrs. Henritta McKirgan and Mrs. Barbara J. Holmes of Des Moines, and Mrs. Betty J. Ballantyne of Norwalk, Calif. A son, Warren, and a daughter, Loraine, preceded her in death.
She also leaves 13 grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; and two sisters, Mrs. Irene Wicks of Iowa City and Mrs. Mildred Deets of Des Moines.
Funeral services were held last Friday from the Collins Funeral home in Winterset, conducted by the Rev. Carroll D. Brown of Mitchellville. Burial was made in the Winterset cemetery.
