GEORGE JOHNSON DIES AT 82 YEARS

George W. Johnson of Winterset died Friday, Oct. 29, at Memorial hospital here, at the age of 82 years.

Mr. Johnson had been a resident of Madison county the past 35 years. He had retired from farming and moved into Winterset in 1967.

He was a native of Creston, where he was born June 19, 1889, a son of Charles and Ida Johnson. He served in the U.S. armed forces during World War I, and was a member of the American Legion and Veterans of Foreighn Wars.

Mr. Johnson was married at Crown Point, Ind., on May 4, 1922, to Lois Marson, who survives him.

In addition to his wife, he leaves a son, Charles Johnson of Des Moines; two grandchildren, Dale Johnson of Winterset and Mrs. Bill Gallaway of Waukeegan, Ill.; two great grandchildren; a brother, Lorange Johnson of Creston; and two sisters, Mrs. Carl Eklund of Afton and Mrs. Avery Sanderson of Tingley.

Funeral services were held Monday from the Collins Funeral home, conducted by the Rev. Charles Updike, pastor of the Winterset Foursquare church. Burial was made in the Winterset cemetery, with military ritual by Green-Rogers post of the American Legion.
