FORMER RESIDENT DIES IN CALIFORNIA

Word has been received of the death of Miss Alice Hightower, who passed away at the home of her niece, Dr. Harriett Hightower, in Glendora, California, on January 31.

Miss Hightower was the daughter of Samuel M. and Elizabeth Smith Hightower, former Earlham residents, and was the last of her immediate family. She was 93 years of age at the time of her death. Before going to California to make her home she lived in Earlham for many years.

She was a birthright member of the Friends church here, and was still a member at the time of her death. She was quite active in the many affairs of the church, holding office there and in the Ladies Aid Society.

A great part of her time was spent in working for the Red Cross in World War I, being awarded the Red Cross Cap for her untiring efforts.

Miss Hightower was a charter member of the Sorosis Club and was interested in all community projects. She cared for her invalid mother until her death, then moved to California to be near other members of her family.

She was preceded in death by her father and mother, a brother Clyde, and two sisters, Mrs. Clara Thompson and Mrs. Tom Williams.

She leaves to mourn her passing two nephews, Ralph Hightower of Los Angeles, California and Dr. Kenneth Williams of Des Moines; and two nieces, Dr. Harriett Hightower of Glendora, California and Miss Elsie Williams of Earlham.

Funeral services and burial were on February 2 in Glendora, California.
