BURLA RAYE STEPHENSON, St. Charles

Burla Raye Stephenson, 88, of St. Charles died of a stroke Oct. 25, 2001, at Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, Oct. 30, at Kale Funeral Home in Osceola with Pastor Doug Hilton officiating. Burial was at St. Charles Cemetery.

Burla Stephenson was born Nov. 15, 1912, in Clarke County to Ephraim J. and Clara (Kirk) Camp. She attended Troy Township Country School, graduating from Murray High School in 1930. She married Harold Everett Stephenson on Oct. 29, 1930, in Missouri. She had worked for State Auto Insurance, retiring in 1975. From 1953 to 1980, she had resided in Des Moines. In 1980, she moved to St. Charles. Burla was a member of the Madison Chapel Church of Christ and Frame Circle in Ward Township. She also was affiliated with St. Charles Calvary Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, a daughter, a son-in-law and two sisters-in law.

She is survived by a daughter, Elizabeth Palmer of Truro; a son, Clifford Stephenson (wife Jeri) of St. Charles; two brothers, Leonard Camp of Osceola and Clell Camp of Peru; a sister, Waunita Siefkas (husband Darrell) of Murray; seven grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-granddaughter.
