MAXINE WITT, Macksburg

Maxine Witt, 83, of Macksburg died Oct. 3, 2006, at the Creston Nursing and Rehab Center.

Funeral services were held Friday, Oct. 6, at the Macksburg United Methodist Church. Burial was at Moon Cemetery in rural Macksburg.

Maxine Witt was born July 27, 1923, in Page County to Ray and Minnie (Meyers) Paxton. She was a 1940 graduate of Lorimor High School. She continued her education at the University of Northern Iowa where she received her teaching certificate. Maxine taught eight years in the rural schools, followed by five years for the Macksburg Consolidated School District. On Oct. 24, 1952, she married Robert Witt in Winterset. Maxine continued her teaching career as a substitute teacher for 12 more years in Macksburg. She also served as a cook at Winterset Care Center North for several years. She was a member of the Women’s Relief Corps in Macksburg, Madison County Republican Women, Wayside Garden Club, and Madison County Historical Society. She also served as a 4-H leader for 12 years.

She is survived by her husband, Robert, of Macksburg; one son, Robert Witt Jr. of Macksburg; one stepson, Richard Witt of Blue Springs, Mo.; a sister, Pauline Spencer of Winterset; two brothers, Duane Paxton of Florida and Dillard Paxton of Texas; and five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be directed to the Macksburg United Methodist Church.

Funeral arrangements were handled by Ochiltree Funeral Service & Aftercare in Winterset.
