Berniece Miller 95, died of a heart ailment July 25, 2002, at Winterset Care Center South.
Funeral services were held Monday, July 29, at the First United Methodist Church in Winterset with Pastor Robert Barrick officiating. Burial was at Winterset Cemetery.
Berniece Miller was born April 7, 1907 to Weaver and Ethel (Knodle) Cooper of Corning. On Aug. 6, 1948, she married Henry C. Miller in Greeley, Colo. She attended the University of Colorado in Boulder, Iowa State Teachers College in Cedar Falls and Drake University in Des Moines, where she graduated with a degree in education. Berniece taught school for 40 years, of which 32 years were spent as a first-grade teacher in Winterset. A resident of Winterset since 1946, she was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Winterset, plus a life member of both the Iowa State Education Association and the Madison County Historical Society.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband and a brother.
She is survived by a nephew, Clinton Cooper of Roswell, N.M.; and a niece, Jo Ann Gurule of Chadron, Neb.
Memorial contributions may be directed to the Winterset Community Educational Foundation.
Funeral arrangements were handled by Collins Oak Park Chapel in Winterset.
