GLENN MERCER 62, DIED WEDNESDAY

Was Native of Winterset; Lived Entire Life in This Community

Glenn Mercer, a life-long resident of Winterset, died this Wednesday morning, Sept. 22 at Memorial hospital here, after an extended illness. He was 62 years of age.

Mr. Mercer was born in Winterset March 6, 1903, a son of Harry and Minnie Edgar Mercer. He was married at Winterset on June 10, 1931 to Mary Sowder. They were parents of a daughter and two sons.

Mr. Mercer had engaged in the auto salvage business in Winterset over a long period of years. He was also known throughout Iowa as a checker player, having won the state tournament several times, and finishing among the top contenders in other years.

He is survived by his wife; the daughter, Mrs. Harold Williams of Indianola; two sons, Merle and Carl Mercer of Winterset; and three grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held this Saturday at 2 p.m. from the Wilson Funeral home, conducted by the Rev. H. E. Borum, pastor of the First Baptist church. Burial will be made in the Winterset cemetery.
