Dorothy Belle Meader, 84, of Peru died of cancer Aug. 21, 2003 at her home.
Funeral services were held Monday, Aug. 25, at Kale Funeral Home in Truro with the Rev. Dennis Shepherd officiating. Burial was at Peru Cemetery.
Dorothy Meader was born July 1, 1919 to Isaac Earl and Florence Rachael (Franks) Holmes of Truro. She was a 1937 graduate of Truro High School. On April 1, 1946, she married Leo K. Meader in Missouri. She lived in Truro and Peru areas for most of her life. Dorothy owned the Peru Tavern for many years. She was a member of the Peru United Methodist Church and also a member of the Chit Chat Club for many years.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; and two sisters, Nola Atkinson and Marjorie Creger.
She is survived by a daughter, Jane Dunbar of Peru; a sister, Pat Dutton of Truro; a brother, Harold Holmes of Johnston; two grandsons; and three great-grandchildren.

Dorothy Belle Holmes Meader, daughter of Isaac and Florence Holmes, was born on July 1, 1919, in Truro and died at her home in Peru on Aug. 21, 2003. She was 84.
She attended school at Truro and graduated from Truro High School in 1937. She married Leo K. Meader on April 1, 1946, and they became the parents of a daughter, Jane.
Mrs. Meader lived in the Truro and Peru area most of her life. She owned the Peru Tavern for many years. She was interested in genealogy and enjoyed collecting stamps, coins and baseball cards.
She was a member of the Peru United Methodist Church and the Chit Chat Club for many years.
Mrs. Meader was preceded in death by her parents; her husband in 1994; and two sisters, Nola Atkinson and Marjorie Creger.
She is survived by her daughter, Jane Dunbar of Peru; two grandsons, Chip See and Levi Dunbar; three great-grandchildren; a sister, Pat Dutton of Truro; a brother, Harold Holmes and his wife, Virginia Holmes, of Johnston; as well as other relatives and friends.
Funeral services for Mrs. Meader were Aug. 25 at Kale Funeral Home in Truro, the Rev. Dennis Shepherd of Truro officiating. Doris Johnson was the organist.
Casket bearers were Chip See, Mike Dutton, Monte McKeever, Bobby McKeever, Tony Doyle and Kenny Dunbar.
Honorary bearers were Rich Strawn, Tim Strawn, Dale Atkinson, J.D. Atkinson, Kory Atkinson, Dave Holmes, Bret Goad and Fred Goad. Interment was in the Peru Cemetery.
