Death Of P. H. LILLIS

On February 18th, 1897, occurred the sad death of P. H. Willis, of Walnut township, Madison County.

The deceased was 64 years and 11 months old. He was born in Clare county, Ireland, in 1832, and came to America in 1840. He was married to Bridget M. Tobin in 1856, at Davenport, Iowa. In 1870 Mr. Lillis and family removed to Madison county, where he lived up to the time of his death. He leaves a wife and five children to mourn the loss of a kind husband and loving father. The names of the children are: Mrs. T. C. Riley, of Salida, Colorado; Mrs. Will Simpson, of this county; Mrs. J. T. Johnson, of Clarke county; A. H. Lillis, of St. Joseph, Missouri; M. J. Lillis, of Madison county.

The remains were laid to rest in the Churchville cemetery in Warren county. Rev. Molyneaux conducted the funeral services.

Neuralgia of the heart was the cause of his death.

Monroe Township

Died, February 18th, 1897, Mr. P. H. Lillis, at his home in east Monroe. Mr. Lillis appeared to be in good health, although he complained of not feeling well that day about noon, and went to his room. About 3 o’clock one of the family went to awaken him for dinner and found him dead. The news cast a gloom over the entire community, as he was well-known and highly esteemed. The bereaved have the sympathy of all.

Death has once more entered our community. Last Thursday about 6 o’clock p.m. it came quietly and peaceably and took away to the great beyond Mr. P. H. Lillis. He had been about the house all morning apparently in good health. About noon he lay down to rest and a little later was discovered dead by a member of the family. He was a beloved father, kind and affectionate to his family, and esteemed by the entire community. He was buried at Churchville Saturday. The bereaved family has the sympathy of the entire community.

P. H. Lillis Dead.—Word was received here Friday that P. H. Lillis, a farmer living near Barney, had died the evening before of heart trouble. His death was sudden and unexpected, he having been up and around a greater part of the day. The funeral was held at Churchville Saturday. Mr. Lillis had lived in that part of the county for a good many years and will be missed by his large number of acquaintances formed during so long citizenship.

Sudden Death.

Mr. P. H. Lillis, an old settler of this county, living in Walnut township, died very suddenly yesterday evening. He was not sick, had been about the place all day. In the evening he felt a slight discomfort in the region of the heart, and lay down. About ten minutes later his daughter found him dead. Mr. Lillis was a well-to-do farmer, and a highly respected citizen.
