Funeral services for Gertrude Elizabeth Maxwell, 86, were held Saturday at Collins Funeral Home in Winterset. Gertrude Maxwell died Thursday at Bethesda Care Center. Burial was in Winterset Cemetery. (d: 5-27-1993)

Born October 2, 1906 to William Thomas George and Cora (Teed) George, Gertrude was raised in Collins and later lived in Elkhart. She lived in Winterset for the past 45 years. On May 23, 1925 Gertrude married John Ory Maxwell. She and John had seven children.

A retired homemaker, Mrs. Maxwell was a member of the Patterson United Methodist Church.

Survivors include three sons; Richard H. Maxwell of Truro, and Lonnie J. and Larry E. Maxwell, both of Winterset; three daughters, Millie Marie Ray of Branson, Mo., Mary Anne Flesher of Melcher and Helen V. Young of Winterset; one brother, Charles George of Seattle, Wash.; a sister, Sarah Hartley of Maxwell; 30 grandchildren and 72 great-grandchildren.

Gertrude Elizabeth Maxwell was preceded in death by her husband, a son and four sisters.
