Bessie Marxen Died Thursday

Bessie Irene Marxen, the wife of Otto H. Marxen, died Thursday, Nov. 2, 1978, at the Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines. She was 79 years of age, born February 1, 1899, in Shelby County, Iowa, the daughter of John and Melinda Fleming Lawless.

Her marriage to Otto H. Marxen took place January 22, 1920 in Atlantic, Iowa. He preceded his wife in death in 1969.

Mrs. Marxen retired as assistant postmaster at Macksburg in 1971. She was a resident of Winterset about six years, moving here from Macksburg and was affiliated with the First United Methodist Church.

Mrs. Marxen was a member of Rebecca Lodge, Past Noble Grand and Pythian Sisters.

Survivors include a son, Maurice Marxen of Modesto, Calif.; a daughter, Polly (Mrs. Dick) Hill of Winterset; a sister, Mrs. Kate Rogers of Omaha, Neb., a grandchild and two great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, five brothers and two sisters.

Funeral services for Bessie Marxen was conducted Monday, November 6 at 1:30 p.m. from the First United Methodist Church of Winterset, Rev. Byron Ayers officiating. Burial was made at the Moon Cemetery.
