Wanda Martin, Winterset

Wanda Martin, 86, of Winterset, died Jan. 17, 2001, from complications of a stroke.

Funeral services were held Saturday, Jan. 20, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Winterset, with Father Chris Hartshorn officiating. A graveside service was held at Glendale Cemetery in Des Moines.

Wanda Martin was born May 21, 1914, to Clifford and Daisy (Dean) McBain of Orient. She married Bernard Joseph Martin in September of 1936 in Des Moines. She had resided in the central Iowa area before moving to Arizona where she lived for 21 years. In 1991, she returned to Winterset. She had been employed as an administrative secretary at Mercy Hospital Medical Center in Des Moines and Arizona State Hospital in Phoenix, retiring after 35 years. Wanda was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Winterset, Current Topic Club, Tri-L Club, Jolly Dozen Card Club and the Democratic Women's Club.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, a daughter, a son, a brother and a sister.

She is survived by three daughters, Doris Wilson (husband John) of Scottsdale, Ariz., Peggy Casper (husband Robert M.) of Winterset and Sally Leahy (husband Mike) of Normal, Ill.; a son, John Martin of Winterset; 24 grandchildren; and 23 great-grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be directed to St. Joseph Altar Society (St. Joseph Catholic Church) in Winterset.

Funeral arrangements were handled by Ochiltree Funeral Service & Aftercare in Winterset.
