HARVE MAPES OF WINTERSET DIES

Funeral Rites Scheduled for This Wednesday at 2 P.M.

Harve G. Mapes of Winterset, well known Madison County resident for many years, died Sunday April 12, at Memorial hospital in Winterset. He was 84 years of age.

Mr. Mapes was born in Madison county near the town of Webster on March 12, 1880, a son of Seth and Alida Robinson Mapes. With the exception of a few years in Oklahoma, his life was spent in Madison and Adair counties, where he engaged in farming and as a quarry worker.

He was a member of the Hill of Zion Christian church.

Mr. Mapes was married Feb. 19, 1902 to Alice Friberg. Her death occurred in 1941.

He is survived by two sons, Harold Mapes of Winterset and Leslie Mapes of Earlham; two daughters, Mrs. Vera Gamble of Carlisle and Mrs. Cora Bristow of Winterset; 19 grandchildren; and 32 great grandchildren. In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Mrs. Dorothy Richardson, in 1939; a son, George Mapes in 1961; by three brothers, Willie, Fred and Hod Mapes; and by three sisters, Martha May, Florence Harrison and Ola Garrett.

Funeral services were to be held this Wednesday at 2 p.m. from the First Christian church, in charge of the Rev. Walter A. Samp of Winterset. Burial was to be made in the Winterset cemetery.
