Gertrude Mapes Services Tuesday

A native of Meridan, Kansas, Gertrude Myrtle Mapes, 64, died Friday Oct. 7, 1977 at Des Moines General Hospital. She was a lifetime resident of Madison County.

Born December 21, 1912, Mrs. Mapes was the daughter of Claude and Grace Borden Hope. She married Leslie Wayne Mapes on October 15, 1941 in Albany, Missouri.

Mrs. Mapes was a housewife. She is survived by her husband, Leslie; a daughter, Vivian Darlene Dowell of Longton, Kansas; a son, Leland James Mapes of Des Moines; six grandchildren and four great grandchildren.

Also surviving are four sister, Irene McCollom of Davenport, Helen Tolley of Des Moines and two brothers, Harold Hope of Albany, Oregon and Leland Hope of Winterset.

Funeral services were conducted Tuesday Oct. 11 at 2 p.m. from Collins Funeral Home, Rev. Charles Updike officiating. Burial was made at the Winterset Cemetery.
