GEORGE R. MAPES DIES IN ARIZONA

Had Lived There 10 Years; After 48 Years in This County

George R. Mapes, a resident of Madison county for 48 years, died Sunday, Dec. 31, 1961 at Coolidge, Ariz. He was 58 years of age.

Mr. Mapes was born near Stuart in Adair county, July 25, 1903, a son of Harve and Alice Friberg Mapes. Most of his life was spent in Madison county until 10 years ago, when he moved to Arizona, because of ill health.

His life here was spent in farming, and as an employee of Madison county. He was a member of the Methodist church.

He was married in May 1926 at Winterset to Daisy Harrison, who survives him. He also leaves his father, Harve G. Mapes of Winterset; three sons, Russell E. Mapes, Carl E. Mapes of Garden Grove, Calif.; and Robert Mapes of Coolidge, Ariz.; five grandchildren; two brothers, Harold Mapes of Winterset and Leslie Mapes of Earlham; and two sisters, Mrs. Vera Gamble of Carlisle and Mrs. Cora Bristow of Winterset.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. this Friday from the Anderson-Wilson Funeral home, conducted by the Rev. John C. Porath, pastor of the Winterset Methodist church. Burial will be made in the Winterset cemetery.
