Daisy Mapes, Winterset

Daisy Eveline Mapes, 88, of Winterset, died of a respiratory ailment Feb. 15, 1997 at her residence. Funeral services will be today, Wednesday, Feb. 19 at the First United Methodist Church in Winterset. Pastor Jon Gaul will officiate the services and burial will be at the Winterset Cemetery.

She was born in Madison County on June 3, 1908 to James Albert and Viola Rebecca (Clement) Harrison. She married George Russell Mapes in Winterset on May 22, 1926. She was a homemaker and had been a resident of Madison county for the past 74 years. She had worked at Tim's Club Cafe and The Gold Buffet. She was a member of the Medora Methodist Church Ladies Aid Society and the First United Methodist Church in Winterset. She had also been a 4-H and Girl Scout leader.

She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; one son; one brother; and four sisters.

Surviving relatives include two sons, Carl E. Mapes of Catalina, Ariz., and Robert George Mapes of Des Moines; one daughter, Martha Ann Porter of State Center; one sister, Lillian Irene Pettit of Creston; 14 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

Memorial contributions may be directed to the First United Methodist Church or Middle River Hospice.
