Clarence Mapes, Winterset

Clarence Mapes, 83, died from complications associated with a peptic ulcer June 6, 1998, at Care Center South in Winterset.

Graveside services were held Tuesday, June 9, at Winterset Cemetery.

Clarence Mapes was born Aug. 5, 1914 in Macksburg to Horace and Mable (Hollingsworth) Mapes. He and Mildred J. Wallin were united in marriage Dec. 6, 1937, at Comfrey, Minn. Clarence was a lifelong resident of Madison County, having farmed most of his life. In 1958, he was the state cribbage champion.

He was preceded in death by his parents and three brothers.

He is survived by his wife of Winterset; one daughter, Faye Jungman (husband John) of Winterset; four grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be directed to Middle River Hospice.

Ochiltree Funeral Service in Winterset was in charge of the arrangements.
